VALLAH(AMRITSAR): Union Government has responded favourably to the suggestion of setting up of Amritsar-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, informed Local Government, Industry and Commerce Minister, Punjab Manoranjan Kalia.
He was addressing the Industrialists at Focal Point, Vallah during a function organized by Focal Point Association, Amritsar here today.
Kalia informed that during the National Convention held lately Union Industry Minister, Anand Sharma, floated the proposal of setting up a Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.
Kalia informed that he took the opportunity to suggest the setting up of Corridor from Amritsar to Mumbai to cater to the needs of Industrialists North India which was favourably responded by the Union Minister. He said that further details on the proposal would be worked out and talks would be initiated soon with the Union Government on the same.
Kalia also informed that in the cabinet session Industrial Estate Maintenance Act would be proposed to meet the long standing demand of the Industry for better in fracture in the Focal Points. He said that Special Purpose Vehicles(SPVs) would be created to look after the Industrial Focal Points. The SPVs would be levying a cost of maintenance from member industries and would be responsible for the upkeep of the Industrial Focal Points.
He said that within a year cent percent upgradation of 9 Focal Points of Punjab would be achieved. Kalia took the opportunity to share the various aspects of Punjab Industrial Policy and said that Punjab Government has approved Rs. 100 crore Capital Subsidy for the Industrialists and has already distributed Rs. 350 crores as Capital Subsidy. He said that special stress has been laid in the Industrial Policy to promote Information Technology, Knowledge and Ago-based Industry. He said that Hotels have been given the status of Industry so that Hotel Industry can avail the benefits entitled to other industries leading to a boom in the said industry. Besides, Medical Tourism is also being promoted in the State and special efforts are being to promote Large Scale Industry.
He also laid down the foundation stone of Rs. 5 crore development works in the Vallah Focal Point including the re-carpeting of roads, sewerage, street lights etc.
He also approved the development works including laying of roads, sewerage, tube-wells and other civic amenities for ward no. 7, 10, 11, 13 and 14 costing Rs. 2. 50 crore.
